Taylor Swift Is Youngest Country Songwriter Winner
Taylor Swift, 20, has become the youngest person ever to win the BMI country songwriter of the year award, just a week after a bumper charts debut for her new album "Speak Now".
Swift also took home the award for country song of the year for "You Belong With Me" at the Broadcast Music (BMI) awards ceremony in Nashville on Tuesday night.
It was the third straight year that the country/pop crossover artist had won the BMI country song of the year award. Her songwriter award put her in the league of late country music legend Johnny Cash, who won the same trophy in 1956 when he was just 24.
Swift, whose personal songs about young love and the social perils of high school have found her a loyal teen audience, won four Grammys earlier this year for her hit album "Fearless" and her new release "Speak Now" is on track to be equally successful.
The chart-topping album sold more than one million copies in the United States in its debut week, making it the biggest first week seller in five years.
Swift also made history on the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts last week with a record-breaking 11 songs from "Speak Now" making entries in a single week.
Swift will be back in the spotlight on Wednesday when she will perform at the Country Music Association awards in Nashville, and compete with Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire, Martina McBride and Miranda Lambert for the CMA female vocalist of the year.
