Demi Lovato wants to be a positive role model to her teen fans

Demi Lovato has revealed that she wants to be a role model for teenage girls.

During an episode of ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’, the 19-year-old Disney star, who underwent severe treatment for eating disorders almost a year ago, said that there was nobody for her to correct her and tell her what was unhealthy.

“There was nobody out there for me to look at and say maybe this is unhealthy,” the People magazine quoted her as saying.

“I want to be that for a 13-year old girl at home deciding whether or not to eat dinner, or an 18-year-old girl deciding whether or not to keep her breakfast down,” she stated.

The singer-actress has she wanted to be “outspoken” and freely talk about her “issues” since her treatment because she “was dealing with the pressures to be thin” when she was growing up.

“It was the time in the tabloids when very, very skinny girls were on the cover of every magazine, and that’s what I was looking up to.

“That’s what I had to idolize. I don’t want that for young girls to idolize,” she added.
